frome nature lab
Cultivating Community is excited to be starting a new partnership with LOOP Composting and Edventure Frome to create Frome Nature Lab, a practical demonstration site for climate-adaptive growing and composting.
We will run volunteer days, workshops, grow wildlife-friendly and drought-resilient plants, trial aquaponics and water capture systems and produce peat-free compost from local food waste.

Cultivating Community having developed and ran a community plant nursery for six years at the Walled Garden in Mells has developed expertise in wildlife-friendly propagation, community growing and inclusive volunteering. Edventure has over a decade of experience activating community-led climate projects, including its Youth Climate Group, Future Shed and multiple nature-based initiatives. LOOP Composting brings specialist knowledge in community-scale food-waste composting and low-carbon waste reduction. All three organisations have strong local networks and a proven ability to co-design projects with residents. This partnership ensures high-quality horticultural expertise, hands-on climate skills, and deep community engagement—making us well placed to deliver a practical, impactful climate-adaptive growing hub for Frome.

Become a volunteer: Regular volunteer sessions will start in March 2026. There will be a range of jobs both light gardening and heavy clearing. We also do community days when we tackle a big area to clear or do a large plant out.
We have been hosting a number of corporate volunteer away day: Its the perfect way to get away from your desks and get your hands dirty. For us having a team on the site really helps us make a lot of progress towards making the site safe and accessible. We can even do you a BBQ. If you would like us to organise a bespoke away day for you please do get in touch.
Make Cultivating Community your community organisation of the year: Our fundraising goals for 2025 are high as we get the site established. We need £50k.
